The Galicia Sur Health Research Institute (IISGS) is committed to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), which promotes the opening of science, narrowing the gap between the scientific field and society, and achieving a more inclusive, transparent and collaborative science, through the application of six principles: scientific education, gender equality, open access, governance, ethics and citizen participation.
IISGS has a number of initiatives and actions aimed at promoting these 6 principles, including the establishment of the Equality Observatory, whose objective is to promote and ensure compliance with the principle of gender equality in all decision-making structures and bodies, as well as in the activities carried out in the context of the IISGS.
With this aim, three core lines of work are established:
FUNCTIONS: Review and issue reports on compliance with gender equal participation of speakers/moderators in the different training and communication events organised at IISGS (courses, conferences, training activities, seminars).
FUNCTIONS: Review and issue reports on compliance with gender equality participation in the different organizational structures of IISGS (scientific committees, commissions, researchers group leaders).
FUNCTIONS: Organisation and promotion of events for equal education and research. Publication of a newsletter with events of interest promoted by other institutions and organization of IISGS events.
The scientific programs of the training/research activities will be evaluated and a report issued thereafter.
In addition, current situation regarding the composition by gender of scientific committees, commissions and number of research group leaders will be assessed, and a report will be issued outlining those objectives in the framework of equal research that are met and which should be improved.
