– Role of ion channels in neuronal behavior – Use of electrophysiological techniques, mainly “patch-Clamp”, combined with pharmacological, molecular and immunocytochemical techniques. – Determination of ion channel types involved in maintaining the resting membrane potential and study of the spike frequency adaptation of neurons from the autonomic nervous system in culture. At present, our main focus are the two-pore-domain potassium channels (K2P), given that we have recently demonstrated for the first time that these channels are well expressed at the sympathetic nervous system. Notwithstanding, we are also interested in other potassium, sodium or cationic channels. – Development of the central nervous system: study of the development of the different encephalic compartments and the spinal cord in vertebrates, from an evolutive point of view.
